Old Amsterdam Cheese

The history of Old Amsterdam cheese

The story of Old Amsterdam cheese starts in the late 1800's when a search for the authentic and rich taste of the past lead to one of the most beloved cheese products ever. When the Westland family could no longer make a living from fishing as they used to, they were looking for new ways to earn money. They found a new passion: cheese! Mr. Westland had a clear mission: he wanted to offer a type of cheese that was just as delicious as the old cheese his mother used to bring from the Jordaan in Amsterdam. That cheese was savoury with just enough sweetness and above all: deliciously smooth and creamy.

A well kept secret

Mr. Westland started to experiment with own recipes. It turns out to be difficult to get the taste and the quality just right, but the family never gave up. They kept trying and after years of perseverance they finally discovered what it takes to create the cheese that we all love so much now. The exact recipe is a well kept family secret.
